(from the end of October to the beginning of November)
Lucca Comics & Games is an international fair dedicated to comics, animation, games (role-playing, board, card), video games and fantasy and science fiction, which takes place in Lucca in Tuscany, in the days between the end of October and the beginning of November. It is considered the most important European exhibition in the sector and the second in the world, after the Comiket in Tokyo.
It takes place every year between the end of October and the beginning of November in Lucca, in an area, in the latest editions, of about 30,000 m², of which about 15,000 are exhibition space.
All the most important operators in the sector participate, as well as an ever-increasing number of specialized shops, comic book stores and recreational-cultural associations. During the days of the market exhibition, various events take place, including concerts, screenings, meetings with authors, presentations, live role-playing and cosplay tournaments, and shows dedicated to the comics and animation sector in general.
Both within Lucca Comics and Lucca Games, you can also find exhibitions and exhibition routes dedicated to the main world artists or titles of works present at the festival. Some of these exhibitions are set up in the evocative Renaissance setting of the city, within the same ancient buildings of Lucca.
Usually, the warehouses in which the exhibitions are held are given the same names as the places in the city where they are located (squares, buildings, streets).
Historically the main area of the fair, the Comics area hosts everything that directly concerns international comics and animation, although over the years and editions, the Games area has acquired equal importance. Thanks to its importance in the territory, almost all the national specialized publishing houses participate in the event every year, as well as numerous exhibitors, retailers and specialized shops, located in the many dedicated pavilions.
Due to its position in the national panorama, the Games area attracts a notable number of exhibitors, not only from sectors strictly connected to the gaming field but, in general, connected to the gaming, fantasy and science fiction culture.
Although very summarily, given the difficult classifications, the exhibitors of Lucca Games can be divided into four types: authors and publishers of games, retailers of games and specialized shops, associations and independent entities, artists and artisans.
